Ski Lessons to help you become an Expert Skier

Welcome to our alpine ski site! The site provides online ski lessons for recreational skiers who aspire to become expert skiers. Our ski lessons are designed to build your strength and enhance your skills until you learn to ski with confidence and control in the expert zones.

We'll share our insights and teach you the skills you need to ski all the terrain in the descent of the mountain. Every skier should experience the rush that an expert feels after a clean run down a steep, un-groomed, mogul field.

Ski Lessons

BecomeAnExpertSkier.com was established to bridge the gap for the recreational skier who has reached an advanced level and now wants to take his or her skiing to an expert level.

Currently, the advanced skier has no one to turn to for guidance, weekend after weekend, year in and year out. We aim to fill this void and provide help to aspiring experts on a consistent basis throughout the year.

Our holistic approach to ski instruction, timing of the ski lessons, and web-based training course are well-suited for the teaching of expert skiing.

Holistic Approach to Ski Lessons

  • We firmly believe in the holistic approach to ski instruction. Becoming an expert skier is about understanding all of the aspects, both on and off the mountain, that can influence his or her performance in the expert zones. The expert skier learns how to be strong and stay strong throughout the year so he or she can ski with power and skill, and confidence and control, in any terrain and in all snow conditions in the descent of the mountain.
  • In our opinion, the skier who aspires to become an expert needs to become stronger physically and tougher mentally in the fall to prepare for the rigors of expert skiing in the winter.
  • In addition, our ski lessons in the winter are designed to teach the student how to become an all-terrain skier, while the lessons in the spring are geared to helping the skier learn how to handle all the snow conditions that he or she may encounter on the mountain.
  • In light of the above, it is our belief that the aspiring expert needs to maintain his or her ski fitness level throughout the summer months by participating in a conditioning program that works the same muscle groups that are used in skiing. In this way, continuity is established from year to year since the ski muscles are not left idle for eight months at a time. He or she can also ramp up much faster in the fall.

Timing of the Ski Lessons

  • We time the delivery of our online ski lessons for the seasons of the year. In the fall, the student receives the lessons that are geared to preseason conditioning while in January and February he or she gets access to the all-terrain lessons. In March and April, the lessons about skiing in different snow conditions are posted, and this is followed by a lesson in May about how to set-up a conditioning program for the summer months.
  • After each of the winter and spring lessons, we point the student to a ski resort in the east, central, and west where he or she can go and practice what was taught in the lesson. We also recommend certain runs at the above resorts that are a good fit for the content in the ski lessons.

Web-based Training Course

  • The web-based delivery of our course content affords us the opportunity to enhance the lessons with lots of color photos and illustrations, and even sound and video in the future.
  • The Members-Only area of our web site allows us to incorporate a number of ways for student and instructor to interact on a continuous basis including e-mail direct to the instructor and a feedback form.
  • Our course content is spread out over sixteen ski lessons, so there is no need to overload the student. We introduce just enough new content in each biweekly ski lesson so the students only have to master two or three new techniques or tactics at a time.
  • It has been our experience that learning to become an expert skier is more of a solitary endeavor. After each of our online ski lessons, students can go on their own or with a friend and practice. If they fall, who cares! They can get back up and ski the maneuver again and again until they get it right.
  • By contrast, slope-side ski lessons in groups don't usually work well in the expert zones. Students feel intimidated with the terrain, stressed out being pressured to ski a new maneuver at an instructor's pace, or applying a new technique under the watchful eye of a crowd.
